Iced Teas
One of the true delights of
warm weather living is iced tea.
We advocate making iced tea from scratch. Why?
There are several good reasons.
- Fresh tea tastes best. You can experiment with flavors and strength until you find your favorites.
- Fresh tea contains more of the health benefits of tea than processed and bottled teas.
- Fresh tea is cheaper. You pay extra for processing and packaging.
Making fresh tea from scratch is actually pretty easy if you develop a system. Here's one approach.
- For one quart of iced tea, brew five teaspoons of loose tea in twelve ounces of hot water for 5 - 7 minutes.
- Strain the tea into a heat resistant pitcher that has a 1 quart volume line.
- Allow to cool.
- Add ice and cold water up to the one quart line.
To use tea bags to make a quart of tea:
- Place 5 tea bags directly into the pitcher.
- Add 12 ounces of hot water and allow to steep for 5 - 7 minutes.
- Remove tea bags and allow to cool.
- Add water and ice to the once quart line.
Adjust proportions for different amounts of tea or to suit your taste. Enjoy!
Hint: You can load an empty tea bag with loose tea and use the tea bag method. (See our Infuser page for empty bags.)
