Traditional Scones

Ingredients:

2 cps. all-purpose flour

3 tbs. granulated sugar

1tbs. baking powder

1/2 tsp. salt

1/2 tsp. nutmeg

1 stick chilled unsalted butter (1/2 lb.)

1/2 egg with enough milk to make 1/2 cup.

1/2 cp. fruits and nuts cut into bits (optional)

Directions:

For easiest and quickest results, use a food processor.

Measure dry ingredients into bowl of food processor. Pulse 4 times.

Add stick of chilled butter cut into cubes pieces. Pulse 17 times.

Add blended milk and egg and process just until dough comes together.

Scrape dough out onto floured surface.

(Knead in dried fruits and nuts.)

Flatten dough to 1/2 to 3/4 inch with your hand and cut with cookie cutter (small for dainty scones).

Brush tops of scones with glaze of 1/2 egg and 1tbs. milk.

Bake at 400 degrees for 12-15 minutes.
