Tea Party Foods

Here we follow up with additional foods like savories, scones, tea breads, and desserts.

Savories:

Savories are tasty foods that tend to add protein to the menu. They often contain cheese, smoked meats, and eggs. It is typical to include deviled eggs, quiche, cheese sticks, puff pasties filled with a tasty crab, shrimp and smoked salmon mixture.

Scones:

Scones should be light and fragrant. They are quite easy to make and are particularly good served warm from the oven with your best strawberry jam. Favorite additions for taste and texture include crystallized ginger, dried fruits (cranberry, golden raisins, cherries, currants), orange or lemon zest, poppy seeds, semi-sweet chocolate bits. Use your imagination! (Recipe link below)

Tea Breads:

Tea loaves have long been served at afternoon tea. They are easy to make and can be enjoyed any time of the day, Tea breads are especially moist when fresh fruit is an ingredient. They freeze well and will remain fresh up to a week if refrigerated.

Cookies, Cakes, & Tarts:

Tea parties that are really special will include one or more dessert items. Cookies should be small and dainty and can be served on paper doilies. The Pepperidge Farm chocolate collection is always a popular alternative to baking. Sugar cookies made with a teapot cookie cutter are a natural accompaniment. A lemon poppy tea loaf with a sugar and lemon glaze or simply a white cake with pastel frosting would be appropriate. Just remember to make the slices small and neat.
