| Visiting Tea Rooms - CHADO
____________________________________________________
Whenever we go on vacation, we like to find a tea shop to visit. A couple of weeks ago we went to Los Angeles where there is a tea room I really wanted to visit. The name is CHADO and it's located at 8422 1/2 West Third St. There was parking on the street nearby.
Chado - The way of tea - is the retail store and eatery of owners Devan & Reena Shah. Devan has been a tea merchant for 20 years and his family has been in the tea business for more than 50 years. As you enter the store, the tea room is to the left and the retail counter is to the right. The 200 plus varieties of tea are presented in the classic manner of shelving with large tins displayed thereon. They also have many tea brewing and storage accessories that are a delight to explore.
In the adjoining room you can dine on soups, salads, tea sandwiches, pastries, and scones. Afternoon Tea is served from 11:30 to 6:00p.m., six days a week. I had their soup of the day and loved it. We shared a pot of black tea from the Island of Mauritious a small French island off the eastern side of Africa. This tea has a taste of the vanilla beans which are introduced to the leaves during processing.
By the way, the reason I wanted to visit Chado is because I buy many of Swann's teas from their wholesale division.
