We're pleased to make available the classic Yixing teapot.
These small teapots are made from a special clay from the Yixing
region of China that produces beautiful, rich colors when fired.
The traditional and whimsical shapes have elegance and grace.
These pots are used to steep certain teas in the Chinese manner.
After rinsing with hot water, the small pots are filled about
half full with tea leaves. The tea maker then repeatedly infuses
the leaves with hot water, steeps and pours off the liquor into tiny
cups to be drunk. As the strength of the leaves weakens with
repeated infusions, the length of the steeping time increases.
The pots are precisely crafted with lids that fit perfectly.
The colors are lovely and the shapes beguiling. The overall
quality for such economical Yixing pots is commendable. Of course, Yixing pots
are also considered collectibles.
You can season your new yixing teapot by brewing a strong pot of the tea you are most likely to brew in it. Let the liquor cool in the pot, pour it out and brew another.
When finished let your pot air dry and its ready for many years of use.
